What is an ESN?

An Electronic Shipping Notification, or ESN / ASN (Advanced Shipping Notification), is a shipping notice that is sent to the receiver to advise them that their freight has been despatched.

When is an ESN sent?

The ESN is sent to the receiver when the consignment is manifested, as long as there is a valid email address (max 50 characters) in the receiver details.

  • ESNs don't support multiple email addresses in the receiver details.

If the email address provided in the receiver details has the following, it may not be sent.

  • is longer than 50 characters
  • have invalid characters

Is Integration required to use ESN?

ESN's do NOT require additional integrations, however in order to implement it is expected you have access to the customers email address to ensure the esn will be sent as expected.

HOWEVER:

  • This does mean depending on your business process you may need to utilize: OneFlo Order Lookup Integration to pull in the email address from your ERP, to assist your despatcher with the required consignment details.
