Changes to Shipping Items

OneFlo will be changing the way Shipping Items are defined and handled for accurate consigning.

What is changing?

Currently, OneFlo defines a shipping item to have the following attributes:

  • Reference (Optional)
  • Code
  • Description (Optional)
  • Quantity
  • Dimensions (Length; Width; Height)
  • Weight
  • DG Information

We have introduced Packaging which is the commodity code that describes the form of freight being despatched in the consignment.

What are these packaging types?

This packaging or commodity code is used to help OneFlo determine what freight is being despatched and to capture more accurate information throughout the consigning process. OneFlo has a number of pre-loaded packaging options which are defined in OneFlo - Packaging Types.

  • Cage
  • Carton
  • Crate
  • Drum
  • IBC (Intermediate Bulk Container)
  • Length (including bundles)
  • Pallet
  • Satchel
  • Skid
  • Others

How is this different from my Code?

Code defines your different shipping containers which can be preloaded in your OneFlo account for use on your freight dispatching activities. For instance, you may have 3 sized boxes that cater for your products. You may have the following codes:

  • BoxSmall which is 10cm x 10cm x 10cm
  • BoxMedium which is 20cm x 10cm x 10cm
  • BoxLarge which is 30cm x 10cm x 10cm

All the above codes will have the Packaging Type of Carton to distinguish it from other types of freight.

Why are we doing this?

These changes are introduced so that OneFlo captures the most accurate information as possible. The most important benefits are:

  • More accurate shipping item information resulting to more accurate quoting.
  • Increased efficiency in the billing process that reflects in invoicing accuracies.
  • Standardised packaging information whilst remaining flexible for each individual despatch process with the use of Shipping Item Code.
  • Increased visibility of commodities in reporting.

How does this affect me?

There will be changes on how you quote, consign and manage your shipping items. For more information on how to perform the common functions, please see our wiki via the references below.

Given that Packaging is a new mandatory field, if you have a defined set of Shipping Items in OneFlo, you only need to populate the packaging for the first time, and it will automatically save it for future use.
